What the Xero home screen is good for
It shows your connected bank accounts and how many transactions are waiting to be reconciled, invoices owed to you, bills you have to pay and recent cash in and out. It is a to-do list as much as a chart: a high reconciliation number means the rest of the numbers are not trustworthy yet.
What we add
A monthly profit and loss and balance sheet, an aged receivables report and an aged payables report, saved and scheduled. A short summary of expenses by account compared with last month. If your plan includes extra reporting tools, we use them. If it does not, we keep the same information in saved standard reports.
Tracking and contractors
Tracking categories can split results by department, job or location. For contractors, we keep vendor records with tax IDs and run a payments-by-contact report, so your tax professional has a clean list at year end. Whether Xero's own 1099 tools cover your needs depends on your region and plan, so we check before we promise a setup.
Bank feeds and rules
A dashboard depends on bank feeds that are connected and rules that categorize routine transactions the same way each time. We tidy the rules, clear the backlog and put the feed on a monthly review.
Moving to Xero

Common questions
Do I need a paid add-on for useful reports?
Not at the start. Saved standard reports cover most small businesses. Add-ons help once you want forecasts or multi-entity views.
Can you work in Xero if I already have a bookkeeper?
Yes, but we would agree who does what first, so two people are not coding the same transactions.
