How it works

How it works

Asset turnover is sales divided by average total assets. Fixed asset turnover is sales divided by average fixed assets, such as equipment and property. Higher means the assets are used harder, but the right level depends on the industry.

FAQ

About this calculator

What is a good asset turnover ratio?

It depends on the industry. Retail and service firms tend to be higher than capital-heavy businesses. Compare with your own past years and similar businesses.

Why use average assets?

Sales are earned over the whole year, so the average of the opening and closing balances is fairer than either alone.

What are fixed assets?

Long-lived assets like equipment, vehicles and buildings, usually shown net of depreciation.

Is anything saved?

No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to us.

Is this tax or financial advice?

No. It is a calculator for general information. Check the numbers against your own records, and ask an accountant before you act on them.
