Online notarization for signers in Hawaii

A commissioned New Jersey notary can notarize for you by secure video while you're in Hawaii. Below: the Hawaii law on out-of-state notarizations, and who has the final word.

Will Hawaii accept a New Jersey online notarization? Generally, yes. Hawaii law recognizes acknowledgments taken in other states (HRS §502-45). The Bureau of Conveyances or whoever receives your document still decides what it accepts.

What Hawaii law says

Hawaii lets an acknowledgment made in another state be taken before an officer authorized there. If the certificate is good where it was made, the instrument can be recorded in Hawaii, and the officer's signature is prima facie evidence of authority. (HRS §502-45)

On our side, New Jersey law treats an online notarization by a New Jersey notary as performed in New Jersey, wherever the signer is (N.J.S.A. 52:7-10.10).

Who decides in Hawaii

We didn't find an official Hawaii page that adds requirements for out-of-state or electronic notarizations. That isn't a promise there are none. The Bureau of Conveyances, agency, court or company receiving your document decides what it accepts, so ask them before you book.

Hawaii's own online notaries

The Attorney General's notary manual describes Hawaii remote online notaries, located in Hawaii, performing acts for remotely located individuals (HRS §456-23). (source) That's context: it governs Hawaii notaries, not ours.
