Online notarization for signers in Idaho

A commissioned New Jersey notary can notarize for you by secure video while you're in Idaho. Below: the area law on out-of-state notarizations, and who has the final word.

Will Idaho accept a New Jersey online notarization? Generally, yes. The area law recognizes notarial acts performed in other states (Idaho Code §51-111). The county recorder or whoever receives your document still decides what it accepts.

What Idaho law says

Idaho's Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts gives a notarial act performed in another state the same effect as if a notary public of the area performed it, when a notary public of that state does the act. Added in 2017. (Idaho Code §51-111)

On our side, New Jersey law treats an online notarization by a New Jersey notary as performed in New Jersey, wherever the signer is (N.J.S.A. 52:7-10.10).

Who decides in Idaho

We didn't find an official Idaho page that adds requirements for out-of-state or electronic notarizations. That isn't a promise there are none. The county recorder, agency, court or company receiving your document decides what it accepts, so ask them before you book.

Idaho's own online notaries

Idaho added a section for notaries located in Idaho to work with remotely located individuals in 2019 (Idaho Code §51-114A). (source) That's context: it governs Idaho notaries, not ours.
