Online notarization for signers in New Hampshire

A commissioned New Jersey notary can notarize for you by secure video while you're in the state. Below: the state law on out-of-state notarizations, and who has the final word.

Will New Hampshire accept a New Jersey online notarization? Generally, yes. The state law recognizes notarial acts performed in other states (RSA 456-B:4, I). The county registry of deeds or whoever receives your document still decides what it accepts.

What New Hampshire law says

The state gives a notarial act performed in another state by a notary of that state the same effect as if a New Hampshire notarial officer performed it, a rule in force since January 1, 2006. (RSA 456-B:4, I)

On our side, New Jersey law treats an online notarization by a New Jersey notary as performed in New Jersey, wherever the signer is (N.J.S.A. 52:7-10.10).

Who decides in New Hampshire

We didn't find an official New Hampshire page that adds requirements for out-of-state or electronic notarizations. That isn't a promise there are none. The county registry of deeds, agency, court or company receiving your document decides what it accepts, so ask them before you book.

New Hampshire's own online notaries

The state's own notaries could begin notarizing for remotely located individuals on February 6, 2022 (RSA 456-B:6-a). (source) That's context: it governs New Hampshire notaries, not ours.
