Special Power of Attorney for the Philippines, signed in New Jersey
Selling land, withdrawing from a bank or handling family papers in the Philippines usually takes an SPA. You can sign it with a US notary and get an apostille, or sign it at the consulate in New York.
Two routes
- Notary + New Jersey apostille. Since May 2019, the Philippine consulate no longer authenticates US-notarized documents; they only need an apostille. (Philippine Consulate New York)
- At the consulate. The Philippine Consulate General in New York notarizes SPAs by appointment, in person, for $25 per copy. Bring two unsigned copies, a government ID with two photocopies, and the eReceipt. It has sample SPAs for selling property and for bank withdrawals. (consulate SPA page)
Which to choose
The apostille route saves a trip to Manhattan; we can come to your home and handle the apostille. The consulate route uses their own sample forms. Either way, ask the bank or Registry of Deeds in the Philippines what wording they need.
