Who it is for
New business owners setting up books, bookkeepers who start many clients, and anyone cleaning up an account list that grew by accident.
Why it is different
- Each account has a plain description of what belongs in it, including the tricky ones such as sales tax payable, owner draws and loan principal versus interest.
- The Compare tab shows what your current list is missing.
- It is open about its limits: it was not tested against a live QuickBooks account, and it lists the type pairs most likely to need a nudge.
What is inside
- Start Here. How to choose a chart and what the pack is not.
- How accounts work. A plain-English guide to assets, liabilities, equity, income, cost of goods sold and expenses, and the account types QuickBooks Online uses.
- Eleven industry charts. Service business, contractor, retail and e-commerce, restaurant, real estate agent, rental landlord, notary and signing agent, nonprofit, Etsy seller, gig driver and professional practice, each with 45 to 70 numbered accounts and a description of what goes in each.
- Compare. Paste the account names you use now and see which recommended accounts you are missing.
- QuickBooks import CSVs. One CSV per industry in QuickBooks Online's import layout, with step-by-step notes and a list of the account type pairs we are least sure about.
