Rhode Island Notary Starter Kit: Knowledge Assessment, $80 Application, Inked Stamp, $25 Fee Cap and Remote Online Rules
Rhode Island asks every applicant to score 80% on its Notary Knowledge Assessment and every notary to use an inked stamp, and it caps fees at $25 in person or online. This kit follows the Department of State's manual from study to first remote session.

Who it is for
Rhode Island residents and people who work or practice there, attorneys and CPAs applying in place of residency, and Rhode Island notaries adding electronic or remote online notarization.
Not the right fit if
You aren't applying in Rhode Island: get your own state's kit. It doesn't replace the required Notary Knowledge Assessment.
Why it is different
- Uses the Department of State's Notary Public Manual, revised July 2024.
- Lists the family relationships the manual says to avoid notarizing for.
- Prints Rhode Island's advertising statement in full.
What is inside
- Training, assessment and the $80 application. Eligibility, the free training, the 80% assessment, original-signature forms, the oath and the Providence filing.
- $25 cap, ID list and inked stamp. Fee posting, accepted IDs, the 7-year journal recommendation, stamp format and lost-stamp reports.
- Approved providers, KBA and the ad statement. Registering for remote work, ID and recording rules, the 30-day paper return and the not-an-attorney statement.
- Assessment-to-commission checklist. Study, assessment, application, oath, stamp and change reports.
- Rhode Island commission budget. The $80 fee and free training filled in, with blanks for stamp, journal and provider subscription.
- Suggested journal pages. Columns for signers and witnesses, ID method and fee, as the manual recommends.
