Who it is for
People selling or buying a used car, truck or motorcycle from a private party who want each state's notary, bill of sale, plate and deadline rules and a clean record of the sale.
Not the right fit if
Not a title service and not your state's official form; if your state has its own bill of sale or title form, use that one. Dealer sales and leases are not covered.
Why it is different
- Covers all 50 states and DC from each state's motor vehicle agency or statute site, checked November 2026.
- Leaves a rule 'Not confirmed' rather than guess, and separates states whose pages say no notary from those that simply don't mention one.
- The workbook's due dates match the free online checklist, including business-day deadlines.
What is inside
- Vehicle sale deadline workbook (Excel). State, role and sale date picker that dates the buyer's title deadline, shows whether your signature needs a notary and lists your steps, plus a log for several sales.
- Start here. The four parts of a private sale, your first hour, and which states require a notary on the title.
- Bill of sale template. A fill-in bill of sale with an optional notary block, labelled to check your state's own form first.
- Seller and buyer checklist by state. The steps for each side, then every state's notary, bill of sale, deadline, plate and fee rules with the official page.
- Sale record, payment, plate and insurance log. The sale details, how payment was made and verified, what happened to the plates, the report of sale and the insurance change.
