Know whether you need coverage, keep proof you have it, and never pay a subcontractor with an expired certificate.

Who it is for
Small business owners, contractors, office managers and bookkeepers who hire employees or subcontractors and need to keep workers' comp and business insurance records in order.
Not the right fit if
Not insurance and not a policy recommendation; it does not tell you which insurer to use. Coverage rules for Indiana and Washington are not confirmed in the kit.
Why it is different
- Covers all 50 states and DC from each state's workers' compensation agency or statute site, checked November 2026.
- Quotes each state's own wording and leaves a rule blank rather than guess; names no insurer and sells no policy.
- Expiry alerts on every policy and subcontractor certificate, with an alert window you set.
What is inside
- Insurance and COI tracker (Excel). Policies with renewal dates, subcontractor certificates with workers' comp and liability expiry alerts, a claims log, and every state's rule with its official link.
- Start here. Your first hour, the six ways states set the coverage line, the four state-fund states, and where no rule could be confirmed.
- State coverage checklist. The questions that decide whether you need coverage, plus every state's rule, construction rule, owner treatment and required notice.
- Certificate of insurance (COI) collection log. What to ask each subcontractor for, a certificate log with expiry and lookup dates, and a follow-up list.
- Injury report and claim log. A one-page first report for the day of an injury, a claim log through closing, and a notice and poster record.
