Short answer. Where the official page gives a number, states require between 1 and 5 work search activities a week (41 of the 49 jurisdictions below). Some count only job applications, some count workshops and job fairs too, and most want a record you can show if audited. Each row links the state's own page, checked in the month shown.

Build a weekly log for your state
The weekly work search log builder picks up your state's number and its own list of what to record, and prints a log for one Sunday-to-Saturday week. You can also download it as a spreadsheet.
How to read the table
"Required a week" is the minimum the state's page names. A range means the number depends on something: your county in Texas and Florida, your labor market area in Arkansas, your distance from a job center in Alaska, how long you've claimed in Pennsylvania, or a recommendation rather than a fixed rule in Colorado. "Reporting" links to where the state says you enter or send your search. The job bank column names the state site where registration is required or offered.
States also limit what counts. Utah wants new employers each week, Vermont doesn't count phone calls, South Carolina counts only searches in its own job system, and several states say how many of the activities must be applications. The state pages spell those out where the official page did.
General information checked against each state's unemployment agency pages, as dated in the table. It's an organizer, not legal or benefits advice: the state agency decides whether your search meets its rules, and your own notices from it come first. MCC Solutions isn't affiliated with any state agency. The log builder runs in your browser; nothing you enter is sent or saved.
Common questions
How many job contacts do I need each week for unemployment?
It depends on the state. Of the 41 jurisdictions in this table whose official pages give a number, the minimum runs from 1 to 5 a week. Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas set a range that depends on where you live or how long you've claimed. The pages for Alabama, California, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota didn't state a number. Your state's own notice to you comes first.
Which states require the most work search activities?
Idaho, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oregon require at least 5 a week on the pages we checked. Several states also say how many must be job applications or direct employer contacts; each state page shows that.
Do I have to register on my state's job site?
In 30 of the 49 jurisdictions here, the official page says registering with the state job bank (or posting a résumé there) is required, often within days of filing. The table names each site.
What should I write down for each contact?
Most states ask for the date, the employer's name and address or website, how you made contact, the person you spoke with, the job and the result. Our weekly log builder sets its columns to your state's own list where the state gives one.
Why does a state show 'Not stated'?
We only list what the state's unemployment agency or its rules say. When an official page we opened didn't state something, we left it out rather than guess. The official link in that row is the place to check, along with any notice the agency sent you.
