How it works
How it works
Export your payments (date, payee, amount, and optionally payment method and category) and a payee list (name, TIN, address, entity type, W-9 on file). The script totals each payee's 2026 payments and sorts them into 1099-NEC box 1a or 1099-MISC rents, royalties, other income, medical and attorney-proceeds boxes. It applies the 2026 thresholds ($2,000; $10 for royalties; $600 for gross proceeds paid to an attorney) and leaves out card and payment-network payments, which the processor reports on 1099-K. It flags corporations, which are generally exempt except for attorneys and medical payments, along with missing W-9s, missing or malformed TINs and payees missing from your list. You get a review report, Copy B recipient statements laid out to the Publication 1179 substitute rules, and a documented generic CSV to map onto the IRS IRIS Taxpayer Portal template.
FAQ
About this calculator
What do I need to run it?
Python 3.9 or newer on Windows, Mac or Linux, plus two CSV files: your payments and your payee list. It uses only the standard library and never connects to the internet. Run it with --demo first to see sample output.
Is the CSV the official IRIS upload format?
No. The IRIS CSV template and its guidelines are only available inside the IRS IRIS Taxpayer Portal. The script writes a clearly labeled generic CSV with one row per form. Download the template in the portal and map these columns onto it. Filing through IRIS is free.
Can I print Copy A and mail it to the IRS?
No. A paper Copy A must be the official red-ink form ordered from the IRS. The script prints recipient copies (Copy B) only. E-filing through IRIS is free, and it is required if you file 10 or more information returns.
Is this tax or legal advice?
No. It is a general-information tool that organizes your data and applies the published IRS thresholds. You are responsible for classifying each payment and payee, so check anything unusual with a tax professional before you file.
