Paid app

Wrenfold: your money, on your own device

A lightweight personal finance app in a single file. Your data is one database file you own and it never leaves your computer; the app only checks in with MCC Solutions to confirm your licence. It is sold on its own, separate from any membership: a fixed price once, then a small monthly fee that covers updates and email support. If you stop the monthly fee, the app keeps working and your data stays yours; you just stop getting updates and support.

Paid app

Wrenfold personal finance software

Wrenfold is its own software, sold separately from the membership. You pay $79 once for the app and $5 a month for updates and support. Cancel the plan any time from the billing portal: the app you have keeps working and your data stays yours, you just stop getting new versions and email support. It runs on your own computer and your data stays in a file you own. Read how it works and the questions below first.

What happens after you buy Wrenfold

  1. Pay

Pay at checkout. Your access link is emailed to you and this page unlocks on the device you paid from.

  2. Download

One zip with a start file for Windows and one for Mac. Double-click it: it finds Python, offers to install it if needed, and opens the app in your browser.

  3. Use it

The app runs on your computer and your data lives in a file you own. The monthly plan covers updates and email support: if you stop it, the app you have keeps working.

  4. Come back for updates

Open this page from your access link any time to download the newest version. Lost the link? Enter your email on this page and we send it again.

On your iPhone or iPad

Open the browser version in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and it opens like an app. Do the Add to Home Screen step before you enter anything: the Home Screen app keeps its own copy of your data, kept on that phone and nowhere else. It works with no connection after the first time, and it updates itself: Settings shows when a newer version is out. To unlock it past the 60-entry trial, open it from your access link once on that phone (or paste the link when it asks).

Paulie and the category suggestions can run on the phone itself (iOS 26 or later; the first time it downloads a small model). The SimpleFIN bank feed works from the phone too. If your browser is not allowed to reach SimpleFIN directly, an optional relay on our server passes the request along without keeping it; it is off unless you switch it on.

To move your data between your Mac and your phone, make an encrypted backup in Settings, send the file with AirDrop or save it to iCloud Drive in the Files app, then restore it on the other device. The Mac app saves backups into iCloud Drive when you have it. It is a copy you move yourself, not live syncing, and the app warns you before an older file replaces newer entries. Keep the backup passphrase somewhere safe: without it, nobody can open the file, us included.

Switching from another app? See plain comparisons, including when another product fits better.

How it works

How it works

It runs on your own computer and opens in your browser, reachable only from that machine. Add accounts of any kind (checking, savings, cash, credit cards, loans, investments, property) and see your net worth and how it has changed. Record or import transactions from your bank's CSV, OFX/QFX or PDF statement (text-based PDFs only, checked against the statement's own totals), with duplicates skipped and rules that categorize them for you. Set monthly budgets and watch spending against them, enter your bills and paychecks to see what is coming up and a cash forecast, track savings goals, and use the debt payoff planner to compare the avalanche and snowball methods with extra payments. A dashboard shows a net worth chart, a spending breakdown, income against spending by month, budget bars and goal progress, and the debt planner draws your balance falling month by month. Every chart has a table view and hover details. It works on a phone too: start it with --lan and open the link it prints in Safari on the same Wi-Fi, then use Add to Home Screen to pin it like an app. It is a web page served from your computer, not an App Store app, so the computer has to be running it, and the link is not encrypted, so use it only on a network you trust. An optional assistant can answer questions about your numbers and suggest categories. It can run on the device you are using, inside the browser, so nothing leaves it (it needs WebGPU: Safari on iOS 26 or later, or a recent Chrome, Edge or Safari on a computer, and a secure page, so on a phone over plain Wi-Fi the browser will not allow it; start the app with --tailscale and it sets up a secure https address through Tailscale, a separate app you install and sign in to yourself), or on an AI you run yourself on your computer such as Ollama or LM Studio. The first time, the open-source engine is fetched from the npm registry and checked against its published checksum, and your browser downloads the model from Hugging Face; after that it is kept. The app only talks to an address on your own computer or home network, you approve every suggestion, and small models can make mistakes. Reports cover spending by category, income and spending by month, net worth over time and the cash forecast. You can export everything to spreadsheets at any time. For an optional automatic bank feed, you can link SimpleFIN Bridge, a separate service you sign up for yourself; your bank data goes from them to your computer, and you can review and recategorize every transaction.

FAQ

About this calculator

How do updates work?

The app can check for a newer version about once a day, and you can switch that off or press Check now. If there is one it shows what changed and an Update now button. Before replacing itself it checks the file is signed by MCC Solutions, keeps a backup of the version you had, and never touches your data. Checking sends only the app name, the version you have and your order code. You then close and reopen the app. Updates and support need the monthly plan to be active.

How does pricing work?

You pay a fixed price once for the app, and a small monthly fee that covers updates and email support. Both are taken in one checkout through Stripe, and the price and the monthly fee are shown on this page before you buy. You can cancel the monthly plan any time from the billing portal. It is sold separately and is not part of the toolkit membership.

What does support include?

Email support from the person who builds the app: help getting started, importing your bank files, restoring a backup, and questions about how a screen works. We aim to answer within one business day. It is not financial, tax or legal advice, and it is not remote access to your computer or phone. Support is part of the monthly plan.

What happens if I stop the monthly fee?

Nothing happens to the app you already have: it keeps working fully and your data stays yours. You stop getting updates and support, and downloading the app again needs the plan to be active, so keep a copy of the app file with your backups. Restart the plan from your access link whenever you want updates again. The app still checks in about once a day to confirm the licence; if it cannot reach us for about five weeks it turns read-only until it can, and your data is untouched. A refund ends the licence.

Can I try it first?

Yes. A copy without a licence is a trial and records up to 60 entries. The demo command shows it with sample data. If your computer is offline for a while, the app keeps working until its current licence runs out (about five weeks) and then asks you to connect and press Check now.

Does it connect to my bank?

Not by itself. You import the CSV file your bank lets you download, or you can optionally link SimpleFIN Bridge, a separate service you sign up for yourself. Check their site for current costs and which banks they cover.

Where is my data?

In one SQLite file on your computer that you choose. Copy it to back it up. We never see it. The only thing the app sends us is the licence check: your order code and email, about once a day.

Is the debt planner or forecast a prediction?

No. They are estimates from the balances, rates and payments you enter, and your lender's actual numbers may differ.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is a record-keeping and planning tool for general information. It does not give financial, tax, legal or investment advice.
