Automated checkbook register (Python script)

Import your bank export and let the script keep the register: new lines only, categorized, with a running balance. Then reconcile to your statement, check the budget and see which bills are coming.

How it works

How it works

Importing the same export twice adds nothing, so you can re-run it any time. Lines are categorized by your own rules first, then built-in ones, and check numbers are kept. Reconcile compares the register to your statement and, if they differ, searches for the exact set of outstanding checks or deposits in transit that explains the gap. Summary compares each category to a budget file. Recurring finds bills and paychecks that repeat and predicts the next date, and forecast projects your balance and warns before it drops below an amount you set. Your register is a plain CSV file you own. Pure Python, no installs, and nothing leaves your computer.

FAQ

About this calculator

Does it connect to my bank?

No. You download a CSV export from your bank's website and the script reads it from your computer. That is the point: your login and data never go anywhere.

What bank formats work?

Any CSV with a date, a description and either one amount column or separate debit and credit columns. Common column names are recognized automatically.

Is the forecast reliable?

It is an estimate built from your own repeating bills and paychecks. It cannot know about one-off spending, so treat it as an early warning, not a guarantee.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is a record-keeping tool for general information.

Is anything saved?

No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to us.

Is this tax or financial advice?

No. It is a calculator for general information. Check the numbers against your own records, and ask an accountant before you act on them.
