Federal dates in order

Dates checked October 26, 2026 against IRS Publication 509 (2027), early release draft. IRS early release draft of Publication 509 (2027). The final version can change a date. Confirm every date with the IRS and, for New Jersey, the NJ Division of Taxation before you rely on it.
Why these pages exist
Most missed deadlines are not a surprise. They are a pile of small jobs that were not started: a W-9 never collected, a bank account not reconciled, a payroll report that does not match the books. Each page below says which of those jobs sits behind a date, so the work can start months before the day.
- 1099-NEC and W-2 due date: contractor and employee forms, February 1, 2027.
- Partnership and S corporation return due date: March 15, 2027, and the extension.
- Estimated tax due dates: all four payments.
- Payroll tax filing dates: Forms 940 and 941.
New Jersey
This page lists federal dates only. New Jersey has its own due dates for income tax, estimated payments, business returns and sales tax, set by the NJ Division of Taxation. New Jersey also applies its own test for who counts as an independent contractor: see our guide to the ABC test.
Questions
Do these dates apply to every business?
They apply to calendar-year filers and to the federal forms named. A business with a fiscal year, a different entity type or an approved extension has different dates. When in doubt, ask your CPA.
What happens when a due date falls on a weekend?
A due date that falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday moves to the next business day, which is why several 2027 dates are February 1 instead of January 31.
Why does the page say draft?
The IRS publishes next year's calendar in draft before the final version. IRS early release draft of Publication 509 (2027). The final version can change a date. We update this page when the final version is out.
