How it works
How it works
Type or export your journal to CSV (entry number, date, time, act type, document, signer, address, ID details, fee, notes, remote). The script writes a single searchable HTML journal that filters by any word, act type or year right in your browser and prints cleanly in landscape. It adds monthly counts by act type with fees, warns about IDs already expired on the act date, missing required fields (you choose the list for your state), duplicate entry numbers and gaps, and adds a keep-until date from the retention years you set. Use --mask-ids to show only the last four characters of ID numbers.
FAQ
About this calculator
What do I need to run it?
Python 3.9 or newer and your journal as a CSV file. The output is a single HTML file that works offline in any browser.
Does it know my state's journal rules?
No. Journal requirements vary by state, so you set the required fields and retention years from your state's notary handbook.
Can I hide ID numbers?
Yes. The --mask-ids option shows only the last 4 characters of each ID number in the HTML and CSV outputs.
Is this legal advice?
No. It organizes and checks your records. Your state's rules decide what the official journal must contain and how long to keep it.
