How it works
How it works
To add tax, multiply the price by one plus the rate. To remove it, divide the total by one plus the rate. The tax is the difference. The calculator does not look up rates, so use the rate your state or local tax agency gives you.
FAQ
About this calculator
How do I add sales tax to a price?
Multiply the price by one plus the rate as a decimal. At 6.625%, a $100 item is $100 times 1.06625, or $106.63.
How do I take sales tax out of a total?
Divide the total by one plus the rate. A $106.63 total at 6.625% is $106.63 divided by 1.06625, or $100.00 before tax.
Where do I find my rate?
Your state or local tax agency publishes the rate for each location. The calculator uses whatever rate you enter.
What is taxable?
It depends on what you sell and where. Some items and services are exempt. Confirm with your state tax agency or a tax preparer.
Is anything saved?
