How it works
How it works
Choose the fields your state expects, add your name and commission number if you like, and print. The usual fields are listed in what a notary journal must record, and how long to keep a journal covers storage. Your state's rules decide what is required, and some states require a bound or electronic journal.
FAQ
About this template
What should a notary journal record?
Most states want the date and time, the type of act, the document, the signer's name and how the signer was identified, and many also want the fee, the signer's signature and the place. Your own state's rules decide, so check them. The guide on what a notary journal must record goes through the usual fields.
Can I use this sheet as my official journal?
Only if your state allows it. Some states require a bound journal, and some require electronic records for remote acts. This is a printable layout, so check your commissioning office's rules before relying on it.
How long do I keep my journal?
New Jersey notaries are expected to keep their journals for ten years, and other states use shorter or longer periods. Check the rule for the state that commissioned you.
Is anything saved?
No. The sheet is built in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us.
