How it works
How it works
The sale price is price x (1 - discount). A second discount applies to the already reduced price. Percent change is (new - old) / old x 100.
FAQ
About this calculator
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the price by one minus the discount percent. A 20% discount on $100 is $100 times 0.80, or $80.
Why do two 20% discounts not equal 40%?
The second discount applies to the already reduced price. $100 less 20% is $80, and 20% off that is $64, so the total discount is 36%.
How do I calculate percent change?
Subtract the starting value from the new value, divide by the starting value and multiply by 100. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase.
Can the calculator add sales tax?
Yes. Enter your sales tax rate and it adds tax to the sale price.
Is anything saved?
No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to us.
