FAQ
About this calculator
What does a positive NPV mean?
The cash flows are worth more than the investment at your chosen discount rate. A negative NPV means they are worth less.
What discount rate should I use?
A rate that reflects the return you could get elsewhere and the risk of the project. It is a judgment, so try a few.
Can cash flows be negative?
Yes. Enter a negative number for a period with a net cost.
Is anything saved?
No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to us.
Is this tax or financial advice?
No. It is a calculator for general information. Check the numbers against your own records, and ask an accountant before you act on them.
