How it works

How it works

The floor area plus the waste percentage is divided by the area of one piece, rounded up. If you enter pieces per box, it also gives the number of boxes.

Example: a 10 by 10 foot floor is 100 square feet. With 10% waste you need 110 square feet. If each tile covers 1 square foot, that is 110 tiles, or 11 boxes at 10 per box. Keep leftover tiles from the same lot in case you need a repair later.

FAQ

About this calculator

How do I get the area of one piece?

Multiply its length by its width in feet. A 12 by 12 inch tile is 1 sq ft.

What waste allowance is typical?

Check the manufacturer. Diagonal layouts and patterns usually need more.

Should I buy extra?

A few spares from the same batch help with future repairs.

Is anything saved?

No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to us.
