How it works
How it works
Area = length x width. Multiple identical rectangles are added together. The waste percentage adds extra material for cuts and mistakes.
Example: a room that is 14 feet by 12 feet is 168 square feet. Adding 10% for waste gives 184.8 square feet to buy. In square yards, which carpet is sometimes sold in, 168 square feet is about 18.67. Subtract closets or add alcoves as separate areas.
