How it works
How it works
Add the parts of the ratio to get the total parts, then divide the total amount by that number to find what one part equals. Each ingredient is its number of parts times one part. For a 50:1 mix making 5.1 liters, there are 51 parts, one part is 0.1 liter, so the first ingredient is 5 liters and the second is 0.1 liter. Use the same unit for both ingredients.
FAQ
About this calculator
What does a 50:1 ratio mean?
50 parts of one ingredient to 1 part of the other, so the second ingredient is 1 out of 51 parts, or about 2 percent of the mix.
Is the ratio parts of the total or parts to each other?
Parts to each other. A 4:1 mix is 4 parts plus 1 part, so 5 parts in all, and the second ingredient is one fifth of the total.
Can I use gallons, liters or ounces?
Any one unit, as long as both ingredients are measured in the same unit. The answers come out in the unit you used for the total.
Does it work for dilution?
Yes for ratios written as parts to parts. Some products write dilution as 1 part product to X parts water, which means the second number is water, so enter the product as the first ingredient and the water as the second.
