How it works
How it works
Add the parts to get the whole, then divide each part by the whole and multiply by 100. For 3:5 the whole is 8, so A is 3 / 8 = 37.5% and B is 5 / 8 = 62.5%. Leave the third part at 0 for a two-part ratio.
Example: a mix of 3 parts concentrate to 5 parts water is 3:5. The whole is 8 parts, so the concentrate is 37.5% and the water is 62.5%. For a 1:2:3 split of $600, the shares are 16.67%, 33.33% and 50%, which are $100, $200 and $300.
FAQ
About this calculator
Is a ratio of 3:5 the same as 3/5?
Not quite. 3:5 compares two parts, so the whole is 8 and A is 3/8 of it. The fraction 3/5 compares A with B alone, which is 60%.
How do I split an amount by a ratio?
Convert each part to a percentage of the whole, then multiply by the amount. Splitting $800 in a 3:5 ratio gives $300 and $500.
Can the parts be decimals?
Yes. The percentages still add to 100%. The simplest-ratio line only appears for whole numbers.
