How it works
How it works
Net worth = total assets minus total debts. Use today's realistic value for each asset, not what you paid. For debts use the balance owed now, not the original loan. Run it again every few months to see the direction, which tells you more than any single number.
FAQ
About this calculator
Is a negative net worth bad?
It is common early in life or after taking on a mortgage or student loans. The direction over time matters more than one reading.
How should I value my home or car?
Use a realistic selling price, such as recent sales of similar ones, not the purchase price.
Should I include things like furniture?
You can, but most people leave them out because they are hard to sell for much. Pick a rule and keep to it so results compare over time.
Is anything saved?
No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to us.
Is this tax or financial advice?
No. It is a calculator for general information. Check the numbers against your own records, and ask an accountant before you act on them.
