How it works
How it works
Gallons = miles divided by MPG. Fuel cost is gallons times the price per gallon. Round trip doubles the distance.
Example: a 240 mile one-way drive in a vehicle that gets 28 MPG uses about 8.57 gallons each way. Round trip that is 17.14 gallons, which at $3.50 a gallon is about $60.00. Towing, mountain roads, headwinds and high speeds can lower real-world mileage.
