Check for the obvious first
Look at the bank connection status on the Bank transactions page. A message about updating credentials usually means you changed your online banking password, added a security question or the bank asked you to confirm identity. Log in to your bank's own website first to make sure there is no notice there. Then update the connection in QuickBooks with the new details.
Reconnect without creating a mess
Use the Update or Fix option on the existing connection, rather than adding the same bank account again as new. A second connection can bring in duplicates. If you must disconnect, choose to keep the account and its history. When the connection returns, QuickBooks will pull in transactions from the past period, often up to the date you set as the start.
Missing days or duplicates
Compare the feed against your bank statement by date. If a gap exists, you can upload a statement file in the format the bank offers, such as CSV, and map the columns. Before importing, check the dates already in QuickBooks so the file does not include overlapping days. If duplicates came in, exclude or delete them from the For review list before accepting.
When the bank is the problem
Some banks limit third-party access or change their connection method, and the feed may be down on their side. Check the bank's alerts, wait a day and retry. Credit unions and small banks may only support periodic updates. If the feed keeps failing, a file upload each month works fine, as long as you reconcile after each one.
Prevent future breaks
Keep a note of the date each bank was last updated. Keep the reconciliation current, since a clean statement balance quickly shows whether anything is missing. Assign a person to check the feed weekly, and use multi-factor prompts carefully, because they can interrupt connections. After a card is replaced and the number changes, check the card connection, because the old one may stop quietly.
Do not delete accepted transactions to fix a feed problem unless you understand the reconciliation effect. If you are unsure, ask your bookkeeper or QuickBooks support before changing records in a period that is already reconciled.
What to tell support
If the steps above do not fix the connection, gather the details before contacting support: the name of the bank, the type of account, the date the feed stopped, any error message shown, and what you have already tried. Do not share passwords or full account numbers in a chat. Clear details shorten the call, and a note of the case number helps if the issue returns.
Meanwhile keep categorizing from file uploads, so the books do not fall further behind.
Common questions
How far back will the feed import?
It depends on the bank and on settings you choose when connecting, so confirm after reconnecting.
Will reconnecting delete my categorized transactions?
No. Accepted transactions stay, but check the For review list for new items.
